Idea for guilds system

I've just been searching on forum and somebody writed a post about colored shields.

It would be a good thing for the store but i have better use for this.


Being able to change color of the shield AND color of a suit of guild members.

Also guild sprite on shield.


General my idea is to create a new in-game tab "Guilds" . There will be top guilds with the biggest amout of kills OR biggest amout of members (Or power points. [guilds war]). Somewhere on the bottom of the tab there will be a "Create guild" button.

Creating a guild cost 1500 gold (around 15 days of playing and collecting gold [100 gold limit]) After clicking this button (if you have enough gold), you will be able to set guild name/tag, suit and shield color, guild sprite and icon. Any of these will be "changeable" but after 1 day and will cost 75 gold per change.

And i have idea on accountment system for guilds. If owner wanted to accountment something to guild members, he/she will do it on guild's page.

Instead of killing noobs I can try to make a bunch of shield sprites in my free time, if Rez can tell us what software he uses for that :)

I guess they are made in Blender, but I'm not sure. Since I have some experience with Cad and vector graphics, it should be easy enough for me to quickly learn something else.

The problem is - I can't handle too many skins / shields.
The engine is primitive 2d thing that requires spritesheet like that multiplied by the number of animations. Which is a killer for a web-based game. Otherwise I would already had 200 weapons, shields and helmets in shop.





So as I understand this correctly - each character is animated separately, and for each part of it (body, head, weapon, shield), the engine gets the right spritesheet from a certain set of graphic files?

Yup, that's how most old RPG games work (Diablo, Fallout, Baldur's) - which is fine for them because they can ship 2 GB of data on CDs.

This suggests that problem lies within the amount of data exchanged between server and player. What if you will increase compression on sprites a bit more?

So if the coloring the suit/ shield can't be done. What is left for guilds system is guild tag somewhere close to your nickname. To avoid trolls i would add color in background of the tag (One constant color). Tag of guild must be limited to like characters 3-4.

You don't need to do guild system, but that's what left from this idea.

Yeah I like that more than having certain weapons/skins.
